Who is behind Stackademy?

We are a small outfit, run by technology enthusiasts that is based in Berlin. Together with great developers, we jointly create intense programs with a focus on practice - let us know if you are interested in teaching a course with us and become a part of Stackademy.

So who is teaching?

All of our instructors are developers with years of experience, who are on top of trends and developments in their field through practical work and real-world projects. Whenever we can work out a course with them, we make sure all the parameters fit to make the program the intense and rewarding learning experience you are looking for. You can find out more about the individual instructor on the course page

Is this for me?

All of the Stackademy courses are designed to get you ready for more in the most intense way possible. If we require previous programming experience, you can find a note on the course page, but in general, motivation and dedication make the difference.

Can you work through a book or an online course instead? Most certainly. In our experience, however, we have found that the results of a full-time course far exceed what you're likely to pick up through a self-paced course in less time. Additionally, we work hard to bring in the right partners for each course, making it much easier for you to take the next steps after graduation.

That being said, a great and up-to-date resource we recommend for beginners as well as for our students is the Learn Ruby on Rails book.

For additional online courses, check out CareerFoundry, a mentor-assisted online course and OneMonthRails, and contact us for special rates.

How does the Recruiting Day work?

For all of our programs, we work with companies that are interested in getting to know the Stackademy graduates. We don't guarantee a placement, but if you pass a partner's application process and stay on after the trial phase, we will refund EUR 1,000 (incl. tax) of your tuition.

We have made sure to only bring in companies that we know personally. We also include excursions to the offices of some of our partners, so that you can learn more yourself and get in touch with the development team. And of course, you are free to choose an entirely different career path for yourself.

"Unique courses" - what's the deal?

At Stackademy, we want every course to be the best it can be. To achieve that, we look for experienced developers and find a suitable time for them to teach a course that really fits their profile. As our instructors continue to work for companies and on projects, we currently only run a program when the right instructor is on board to teach. If you want to be the first to hear about new courses, sign up for our free newsletter.

How long are the courses exactly?

Stackademy Web Application Development runs for 12 weeks from 9am to 6pm (or longer if you're in the zone and want to stay).

Additionally, we provide basic prep material to all participants to work through before the start of the course, which you can complete anywhere where you have an internet connection - and we're available in case of questions.

For the duration of the actual courses, you shouldn't have any other major commitments to attend to. We don't chain anyone to their desk but you'll want to be able to commit to making the most out of the course. It'll be worth it.

Do I need to bring a laptop?

Yes, we do recommend that. While we provide iMac workstations with all necessary applications, you benefit from having your own system to work on for homework and personal exercises.
We can provide a loaner laptop if this is an issue for you.

Is Stackademy a certified course?

Stackademy currently is not certified by a third party. In our experience, good companies will base their hiring decisions for technical positions on actual development skills, and we make sure you're prepared as superbly as possible for that. You might also be surprised how many certified CS graduates aren't familiar with developing actual applications, and we haven't seen a solution that would allow us to solve this, other than offering a kick-ass course.

In addition, we provide you with course documentation on your skills and achievements upon completion of the course.
